Brazil Independence Day in LA

September 12, 2011

Bright yellow and green clothing are proudly worn in Hancock Park celebrating Brazil’s Independence from Portugal.  It was filled with parades, dancing, music, and food.  The Brazilian community is so large that celebrations can be seen across the state in Los Angeles (10th),  San Francisco (11th), and San Diego (18th).   I have never been to Brazil, but my closest encounter to their culture is through Brazilian restaurants, watching the movie Rio, and the travel channel on tv.  This celebration offered a little more hands-on experience on the culture: beautiful people, delicious food, and upbeat entertainment pushing me to further to want to visit.
